Here are your picks for this week:
👭 It’s all about People
First, some really good advice from Raylene Yung on building a career as an engineer. How to be valuable, whether to grow into a management role, etc - very much worth reading and sharing with your team.
🔄 Process makes perfect
Pair programming, once slightly controversial, is now a widely adopted, good practice. Here is an excellent, detailed write-up on the ins-and-out of it, its benefits and challenges. Any dev team should really have a clear approach to how, when and why pair programming can be used.
💡 Idea(s) of the week
Finally, Tim Ferriss’ latest blog was particularly interesting - and can be summarised as two separate points.:
First, increase your focus and do less, but better; be “on the bottom” of your topic(s) of choice, rather than on top of ‘everything’
Second, certain essential, high-level decisions can save you from making thousands of smaller ones (eg pick your product goals for the year, then sifting through 100s of feature requests will become trivial, as most won’t align so can be discarded outright)
Strong advice to keep in mind.
I hope you enjoyed this
