Async conference, Building up resilience, Mental shifts in strategy
Here are your picks for this week:
⌨️ If it ain’t code, don’t fix it
With conferences going online due COVID-19, the X-Team went one step further and created a remote, async conference: /FWDCONF.
A good schedule of sessions covering stateless, mentoring, remote work and more (with additional activities for X-Team members).
👭 It’s all about People
Next, Eric Barker explains how to build up resilience with 5 simple tips.
Spoiler alert: practice positive self-talk, work on your physical fitness, make life a game, use humor and embrace meaning. Valuable for both yourself and your team.
🌎 Hope is not a strategy
While the whole Interweb is awash with advice on remote working, not much is said about whether, and how, to adjust your strategy. Cue James Currier from NFX talking about the mental shifts of startup founders who succeed in downturns.
Some really good advice there, well worth a read. And which chimes in with this observation from a prescient 2019 Bain and Company report on a likely recession:
Think of a recession as a sharp curve on a racetrack – the best place to pass competitors, but requiring more skill than straightaways. The best drivers apply the brakes just ahead of the curve (cut excess costs), turn hard towards the apex of the curve (identify the short list of projects that will form the next business model), and accelerate hard out of the curve (spend and hire before markets rebound).
I hope you enjoyed this, have a good week and stay safe!
