The 5-Minute Startup CTO #62
D&I ideas, Hiring a Product Manager, First Principles, Good database design
Hi there,
I hope you’re well!
Here are this week’s top links on People, Product, Process and Tech.
👭 People
While Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) is rightly seen as key for companies of any size, one can be left wondering: what can I do about it? Jennifer Kim very helpfully put together a list of 50+ highly actionable ideas.
Lots of good stuff in there, and amongst my favorites: ban “gut feeling” as excuses for rejecting a candidate, and putting a stop to interruptions.
🥫Product
When should startup founders hire their first Product Manager? Right after raising a seed round, says Louis Coppey, based on his experience at VC Point Nine. With a good overview of what this first PM will do.
🔄 Process
Still, opinions and information are cheap, and often a poor basis for making decisions. Rather than thinking by analogy, start from ‘first principles’.
This Ultimate Guide to First-Principles Thinking is a great resource to get familiar with the concept and expand one’s thinking.
⌨️ Tech
A neat, concise guide to good database design. All pretty straightforward, and potential time-saver.
Until next time, have a great week!
