The 5-Minute Startup CTO #64
Abstract Management Interface, Effective Product Management, Interview red flags, Introduction to Go
Hi there,
I hope you’re well. Here are this week’s top links on People, Product, Process and Tech.
👭 People
Chris Schillinger, from Flatiron Health, explains how he creates alignment with his direct reports by agreeing on a set of desirable outcomes, which he calls an ‘Abstract Management Interface’.
Although the principles behind this (goal setting, focusing on outcomes, alignment) aren’t necessarily new, this is a neat way to bring it all together.
🥫 Product
A good overview of the art that is Product Management, by Craig McLuckie. Especially the ‘Things I have seen work well’ and Anti-patterns.
“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.”
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
🔄 Process
Uduak Obong-Eren took 60+ technical interviews in a month and reflected on 6 reasons he found not to join certain companies. Good insights from the ‘other side’ of recruiting.
⌨️ Tech
A nice, interactive introduction to Go. Worth a look if you’re not familiar with Go already!
Until next time, have a great week
