The 5-Minute Startup CTO #69
Micro-management, Product bias, Radical Candour, Modern design patterns
Hi,
I hope you’re well!
Here are this week’s 4 tips on People, Product, Process and Tech:
👭 People
Dara Fontein on the issue of micro-management: 6 signs that you may be micromanaging, why it is harmful and what to do about it.
A good reminder to keep yourself in check, although I’d temper it as there are specific contexts where managers need to dig deep into specific issues, people or teams. And delegating is not an all-or-nothing solution: see Management 3.0’s delegation poker.
🥫 Product
Talking about keeping yourself in check, what about Product Teams: what kind of biases may they exhibit in their decision making, resulting in below-par performance?
Shryas Doshi identified 7 such biases, and suggests solutions to address them.
🔄 Process
A great, detailed post on Radical Candor and how to introduce the concept and practice to your team. Well worth a read!
⌨️ Tech
An interesting post from Tanmay Deshpande, covering 6 ‘modern’ architecture design patterns. Some you may recognise or have used, more or less successfully. As always these come with pros and cons. Keep things simple!
Until next time, have a great week
