The 5-Minute Startup CTO #81
Startup failures, Managing stakeholders, Communication plans, LinkedIn search
Hi there,
I hope you’re well - here’s your 4 tips for this week:
👭 People
Tom Eisenman summarises his book, Why Startups Fail, by highlighting the two main reasons for things to go wrong - the first of which being a startup’s broad leadership team not working well together.
Broad in that it genuinely goes beyond the founders - and includes partners, key employees and investors, all of which can contribute to the startup’s failure. It really is all (or mostly) about People. The other reason? Product false starts.
🥫 Product
So onto Product, indeed. Dottie Schrock from ProductBoard wrote up nicely about the challenge of managing stakeholders, by profiling 5 typical types of stakeholder challenges, and detailing how to best handle these.
🔄 Process
In ‘The Art of the Tick Tock Doc’, Lara Hogan explains how to plan the communication of critical new messages within a company. It would be too easy to underestimate the impact of mis-communicating such information, and I wish I had seen this years ago.
⌨️ Tech
Rashmi Jain recently published a nice overview of how LinkedIn rewrote its search service (again). Check it out to learn about their approach, search ecosystem, results and learnings.
Until next time, have a great week!
